The College of Southern Nevada recently identified and responded to an unauthorized access incident affecting a portion of its network. Upon discovery, the College’s Office of Technology Services immediately activated its incident response protocols, secured the affected systems, and began an investigation.

‌At this time, there is no evidence that any personal information, as defined by law, was accessed, acquired, or compromised, and the unauthorized activity did not include access to any CSN enterprise systems, including Outlook, MyCSN, Workday, Canvas, or other core institutional platforms. Although this incident did not result in a data breach, it is a reminder that cybersecurity threats remain active and evolving. Protecting our systems and information is a shared responsibility.

What You Need to Know
CSN’s Office of Technology Services (OTS) will never ask for your username, password, or multi-factor authentication (MFA) code via phone, email, or text.

What to Watch For

  • “Helper” scams: An individual may contact you claiming to be OTS support and request your MFA code to “fix” or “synchronize” your account.
  • Unsolicited authentication prompts: You may receive a login code or push notification when you are not actively attempting to access a CSN system. Repeated prompts may be sent in hopes that you approve one, do not approve any unexpected request.

Your login credentials, including MFA codes, protect access to systems such as MyCSN, Workday, and Canvas. Sharing this information is equivalent to granting access to your account.

If You Receive a Suspicious Request or Unsolicited MFA Prompt

  1. Do not provide any information.
  2. Do not approve the request.
  3. Report the incident immediately to phishing@csn.edu.

CSN will continue to monitor its systems and enhance its cybersecurity safeguards. Additional training and guidance will be shared with the campus community in the coming months.

Protecting CSN’s systems and data is a shared responsibility. Thank you for your diligence and for helping keep our systems and data secure.
