March Dual Credit Corner Excerpt

Alexandra Strayhorn
What if you could graduate high school with a college degree already in hand? For CSN dual credit students like Alexandra Strayhorn, that is not just a dream. It is happening right now.
Strayhorn is one of the standout students featured in CSN’s latest Dual Credit Corner Newsletter, and her story is worth paying attention to. She used dual credit courses to build a real career path before ever walking across a graduation stage. Her journey is proof that the program is about more than just saving money on tuition. It is about getting a genuine head start on life.
She is not alone. Valedictorian Aaliyah Lokeena is another dual credit success story making waves this month. Lokeena set her sights on forensic science and used her dual credit experience to chart a clear course toward her goals at CSN. Both students show what is possible when high schoolers get access to college-level opportunities early.

And the opportunities are growing. CSN is actively recruiting Jumpstart Instructors to help expand the program, offering up to $1,000 in benefits along with a free certificate for part-time instructors who join the effort. It is a chance for educators to play a direct role in shaping the next generation of college students.
The savings alone make dual credit worth a serious look. Depending on enrollment type, students and families can cut tuition costs significantly compared to standard CSN enrollment rates. Whether through concurrent or dual enrollment, the financial benefit is real and adds up fast across multiple credits.
CSN also recently took the dual credit message on the road, sharing program details and opportunities at a homeschool conference in Henderson. The outreach reflects a growing commitment to making dual credit accessible to more students across Southern Nevada, no matter how or where they are learning.
With CTE Academy Pathways also expanding, students have more career-focused options than ever to explore while still in high school.
The bottom line: dual credit is one of the smartest moves a high school student can make, and CSN is here to help make it happen.
