Little Learners, Big Week: CSN Celebrates the Week of the Young Child

April 24 2026

Chalk art, live music, and popsicles with parents. It was that kind of week at CSN.

In early April, CSN’s Early Childhood Education programs joined colleges and communities across the country in celebrating the Week of the Young Child, a nationally recognized event that puts the spotlight on early learning and the families and educators who make it happen.

The week had a different theme every day, and CSN leaned all the way in.

Music Monday featured Professor Christopher Davis, who read “Cool Daddy Rat” to a room full of kids and then picked up his bass and played live. Tasty Tuesday brought Chef Jill and a group of culinary students into preschool classrooms to lead pastry decorating, which is exactly as fun as it sounds.

Wednesday was all about getting outside. Children gathered at CSN’s main entrance and the Early Childhood Education Lab Program entrance for chalk art and bubbles, a low-key, high-joy afternoon that had kids working together without even realizing it.

Thursday got artsy. Local Las Vegas artist Yazmin Garcia came in and guided children through a collaborative canvas-painting project, the kind of activity where the process matters just as much as what ends up on the canvas.

And then came Family Friday, which might have been the highlight of the whole week. Families showed up, popsicles were handed out, and everyone got a little time just to be together outside.

The week pulled in faculty, culinary students, and local artists, which says a lot about what CSN’s Early Childhood Education programs are building. It’s not just about training the next generation of early educators. It’s about showing students what it looks like to put community first.
