CSN Students Spend a Day Inside Google

Unknown 1 200x150Most people will never set foot inside a Google data center. A group of CSN students got to do exactly that.

Students and faculty from CSN’s Computing and Information Technology program recently visited Google’s Henderson data center for a full day of hands-on learning. The experience was about as close to a behind-the-scenes look at Big Tech as it gets.

During the visit, students worked alongside Google data center technicians to build actual servers, picking up technical skills and practicing the kind of collaboration that real-world tech jobs demand. They also got a candid look at what working at Google is actually like, including what skills and experiences candidates need to get hired there.

The day was led by site manager Joe Miklovic and his team, who went out of their way to make the experience meaningful and inspiring. According to faculty member Karen Ahern, the local team was “extremely generous” and genuinely motivated students to pursue careers in tech.

Oh, and there was one more perk: lunch in the famous Google cafeteria. Students didn’t just learn what it’s like to work at a high-security data center, they got to live it for a day.

For CSN’s Computing and Information Technology students, the visit was a tangible reminder that the careers they’re working toward aren’t out of reach. They’re right here in the Las Vegas Valley.
