The College of Southern Nevada School of Arts & Letters and Department of Fine Arts, in collaboration with the City of Henderson, will host Starboard Kind of Blue, a solo exhibition of artworks by Nevada-based artist, writer, curator, and educator ¡Katie B Funk!. The exhibition will be presented in the Art Gallery at the City of Henderson’s Center of Excellence. Starboard Kind of Blue opens Thursday, October 29, 2026, and runs through Saturday, March 13, 2027. A special Gallery Talk and Artist Reception will take place on Wednesday, March 10, 2027, beginning at 6 p.m.

¡Katie B Funk! is an internationally exhibiting artist, writer, curator, and educator based in Las Vegas, Nevada. She received her BFA from Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana in 2012, MFA from Columbus College of Art & Design in Columbus, Ohio, in 2018, and a second MFA from the University of Nevada Las Vegas in 2025.

Speaking about her work, ¡Katie B Funk!  states: “Born on a Friday night under a waning crescent moon in South Bend, Indiana, she would soon get the chance to haphazardly construct a double-bottled tornado maker in preschool – a project that remains a pivotal core memory. Once a pile of Barbasol shaving cream was plopped in front of her to play with in the early days of kindergarten, ¡Katie B Funk! knew that making things out of something else was all she wanted to do in life.

Since those formative years, she has scooped ice cream, patched and painted walls, iced cinnamon rolls, ground coffee, art handled, slung around Mid-westernly huge platters of gummy prime rib, poured beers, arranged flowers, fried a smorgasbord of finger foods, opened wine, taught first years in college, taught first graders in an after school program, arranged cookies, babysat kids, dog-sat, shaken cocktails, pulled weeds, checked in cardiology patients, scrubbed gym equipment, baked scones, tried her best in the government sector, and assisted in a number of artist studios and gallery spaces.”

The Center of Excellence is a partnership between the City of Henderson and the College of Southern Nevada. Located in West Henderson, this facility is a critical feature for diversifying our industry by fulfilling a need for high-skilled, advanced manufacturing training. This specialized training facility is a valuable resource for both businesses that want to relocate to the area and existing locally based companies looking to expand. The Center of Excellence is located in the burgeoning West Henderson area, which boasts the popular Henderson Executive Airport and is home to a wide range of distribution centers, corporate headquarters, and industrial parks.

CSN Art Galleries are free, family-friendly, and open to the public. Gallery hours for the Center of Excellence Art Gallery are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
