A New Hub for Faculty

There’s a new space at CSN designed specifically with faculty in mind, and it’s officially ready to welcome the college community.

The Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning will celebrate its grand opening from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, giving faculty a chance to stop by, explore the space and learn more about the resources and opportunities available through the Center.

And there’s already something new to see on the walls.

The Center is now home to a collection of artwork created by CSN faculty members from the Department of Fine Arts. Faculty artists have loaned their pieces to help brighten the space, creating what might be the perfect pairing: faculty art in the Faculty Center.

But the Center is about much more than a physical space.

Its work is focused on supporting CSN faculty through teaching and learning, professional development and opportunities to grow their research and scholarship.

That work is also gaining attention beyond CSN. The center’s director, Dr. Rachel Yoho was recently selected to participate in the inaugural Research Impact Communities of Practice through the Center for Advancing Research Impact in Society. The national two-year program, which begins this month, brings together research impact professionals to share ideas, develop resources and strengthen how institutions connect research with society.

For CSN, that means bringing a community college perspective into a national conversation about faculty development, research and the scholarship of teaching and learning.

The Faculty Center will also be getting some airtime soon. Upcoming appearances include Dr. James McCoy’s new ConnectED podcast and an interview with KNPR focused on the Center and its work.

Faculty who want to see what all the buzz is about can start with the grand opening Sept. 21.
