Constitution Day, Minus the Pop Quiz
Which constitution protects your rights? When does the government have to pay for private property? And just how much power does a president have?
CSN’s Department of Social Sciences is taking on those questions for Constitution Day, Sept. 17. Faculty members have created three new video lectures that connect the Constitution to legal debates and court cases shaping the country today.
This year’s lineup includes:
- Dual Constitutionalism: How We Are Protected by Two Constitutions, presented by Dr. Kenneth Fernandez
- Pung v. Isabella County: Just Compensation and the Takings Clause, presented by Dr. Michael Hart
- Meditations on Executive Power: Recent U.S. Supreme Court Cases and Presidential Authority, presented by Dr. Francis Carleton
Colleges and universities that receive federal funding are required to offer an educational activity recognizing Constitution Day. At CSN, that means going beyond a once-a-year history lesson. The Department of Social Sciences adds three new lectures each year, giving viewers a closer look at constitutional questions with real consequences for government, individual rights and everyday life.
