College and county leaders gathered Tuesday, January 6, at the College of Southern Nevada’s Charleston campus to formalize a new partnership between CSN and the Eighth Judicial District Court of Nevada aimed at expanding education and career training opportunities for young adults involved in specialty court programs.

It became official when Dr. Stacy Klippenstein, president of CSN, and Judge Jerry Wiese, chief judge of the Eighth Judicial District Court of Nevada, signed an agreement launching a new education and career training partnership for young adults involved in specialty court programs.

Dr. Klippenstein offered brief remarks, emphasizing CSN’s mission to meet learners where they are and provide pathways that lead to stability and long-term success. He noted that community colleges play a critical role in workforce development and second-chance opportunities, especially for young adults who are ready to change course.

Judge Wiese followed with remarks highlighting the significance of the partnership, calling it a first of its kind in Southern Nevada. He said the program reflects a shared belief that education and training can be powerful tools for recovery and recidivism.

The signing itself was simple and symbolic. Standing at a black high-top table, Dr. Klippenstein and Judge Wiese reviewed the documents, signed, exchanged folders, and shook hands. Cameras clicked as the agreement was finalized, followed by a brief question-and-answer session with media.

The program is designed to serve up to 50 specialty court participants between the ages of 20 and 25. Participants will receive education and career training through CSN, including support in earning a GED for those who need one. From there, students will be guided toward trade apprenticeships or college degree programs aligned with their interests and career goals.

Judge Wiese said the goal is to help participants think beyond short-term jobs and toward long-term careers. “We’re helping them look beyond jobs at places like Taco Bell and toward long term careers that give them stability and purpose” he said.

Leaders from both institutions emphasized that the partnership extends beyond earning credentials. The focus is on providing structure, support, and a clear path forward for participants as the collaboration moves ahead.
