This season, CSN welcomes Dani Maloney as Artist-in-Residence. A BFA graduate of Shenandoah Conservatory and founder of the award-winning DMD (Dani Maloney Dance) nonprofit, Maloney brings a wealth of professional expertise to the program. Currently a touring artist and choreography artist coach for Cirque du Soleil’s OVO, Maloney has set new work for the CSN company that reflects her extensive background in live performance and film.

The concert also marks a significant collaboration with CSN’s Theatre Program through Echoes of Heritage. Directed by Kishema Pendu Malik and Jason Nious, this devised theatre-dance work features original choreography by Ashely Martinez and Aaron Sullivan.

“Art in Motion” extends beyond the stage through a unique partnership with CSN Fine Arts faculty member Sapira Cheuk. Impromptu movement during the pre-show and intermission is inspired by Cheuk’s exhibit, Transmitting Figures, which explores proprioception and identity through large-scale ink paintings. The exhibit runs through May 2, 2026, in the Fine Arts Gallery.

The concert serves as the debut for CSN’s new touring and competition ensembles: The Red Rock Dance Ensemble: Under the direction of Carrie Miles, the ensemble performs a poignant exploration of resilience and loss set within the emotional landscape of the Depression era.

The World Cultural Dance Ensemble: Directed by Liezel Marie and Pendu Malik, this group presents an inaugural fusion of culture and Hip Hop.

The program also highlights the Capstone Projects of CSN Dance Majors Naoma Wickert, Gonzalo Castro Barbosa, and Saphira Hernandez, offering a vulnerable look into their personal storytelling. Additionally, the CSN Dance Program is pleased to welcome the Somerset Academy Dance Program, under the direction of Monica Armstrong, to share the stage.

CSN’s Spring Formal Dance Concert “Art in Motion”  is more than just a performance; it’s a celebration of dance, a testament of it’s power to bridge time and cultures, and a glimpse into the future of dance itself.
