CSN Hosts Statewide Workshop to Advance Credit for Prior Learning
CSN is bringing higher education partners from across Nevada together for a shared goal: helping more students receive college credit for the knowledge and skills they already have.
The Charleston campus is hosted the third Constellation of Support Workshop, focused on “Formalizing and Implementing Your CPL Approach.” The daylong event includes cross-institutional sharing, implementation planning, project management and discussions about how institutions will evaluate their efforts moving forward.
CSN President Dr. Stacy Klippenstein welcomed attendees to the Sept. 24 workshop, setting the stage for a day centered on collaboration among Nevada’s higher education institutions and partners.
Credit for prior learning gives colleges a way to recognize college-level learning students may have gained outside a traditional classroom. Today’s workshop is an opportunity for participating institutions to move beyond conversation and begin formalizing how that work can be implemented, supported and evaluated.
The agenda reflects that next step. Following cross-institutional sharing, participants are spending the afternoon making decisions about their approaches, developing implementation and project management plans and establishing evaluation expectations.
For CSN, hosting the gathering also highlights the collaborative nature of Nevada higher education. While each institution serves its own students and communities, initiatives like credit for prior learning create opportunities to work together, learn from one another and build approaches that can benefit students statewide.
