CSN students, faculty, and staff marched down 4th Street on Monday in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, joining one of the largest and longest‑running MLK parades in the western United States.
The event, recognized as the biggest MLK parade west of the Mississippi River, drew thousands of spectators and hundreds of community organizations. Participants honored the life, legacy, and enduring impact of Dr. King, whose leadership in the civil rights movement continues to inspire generations.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day became a federal holiday in 1986 after being signed into law by President Ronald Reagan. Since then, cities across the country have marked the day with commemorations, but Las Vegas has distinguished itself with its massive annual celebration.
This year’s parade carried the theme “Living the Dream: Justice in the Journey. Hope in the Hardship.”, reflecting the community’s commitment to unity and progress.
Former Nevada Assemblyman Wendell P. Williams, who founded the Las Vegas Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Committee in 1983, once again played a central role in organizing the event. His decades of leadership have helped transform the parade into a signature civic tradition for Southern Nevada.
CSN’s participation highlighted the college’s ongoing commitment to diversity, community engagement, and honoring the values of equality and justice championed by Dr. King.
