CSN Launches Nevada’s First One-Day EV Safety Certification Course
As electric vehicles become more common across Southern Nevada, CSN is helping local technicians and industry professionals stay ahead of the curve.
This past fall and spring, CSN successfully completed its first round of the Electric Vehicle Certification Course, the first program of its kind in the state of Nevada. Participants earned their xEV Electrical Safety Awareness Certification Level 1 after completing a full day of hands-on instruction and a certification exam.
The course, offered through CSN’s Division of Workforce and Economic Development, focuses on high-voltage safety and risk reduction when working on or near electric vehicles. It is designed for professionals in sales, service, repair and related fields, and no prior experience is required.
This effort is made stronger through collaboration. CSN partnered with the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, Clark County School District and the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence to ensure the training aligns with real industry needs and recognized standards. Together, these partnerships help build a stronger pipeline of skilled technicians prepared to safely work on today’s evolving vehicle technology.
As EV adoption continues to rise, more local businesses are seeing hybrid and electric models in their shops. Unlike traditional vehicles, EVs operate on high-voltage systems that require specialized knowledge and safety awareness. This certification helps close that gap, giving Southern Nevada technicians access to training that previously required traveling out of state.
The first cohort trained at the North Las Vegas campus under the instruction of Jared Templin. The program is supported through a U.S. Department of Labor grant, reinforcing CSN’s role in strengthening the region’s workforce.
Being first in Nevada matters. It means local technicians, school districts, transit agencies and automotive businesses now have access to cutting-edge EV safety training right here in the valley.
Additional sessions are planned as interest continues to grow. To learn more or register for an upcoming class, visit csn.edu/ev.
