Celebración Latina – A Mariachi Fiesta will showcase a uniquely exciting partnership as it finds Opera Las Vegas collaborating with the College of Southern Nevada’s Award-winning Mariachi Plata ensemble, at the Horn Theatre, 18 February 2024, at 3:00 pm.
The program will offer a festive presentation of traditional music, famous Zarzuela (Spanish operetta) selections, and excerpts from recent works by contemporary Latino opera composers, such as Hector Armienta (Zorro), and Daniel Catán (Il Postino).
The afternoon’s musical offerings will be headed up by the nationally acclaimed soloists: Soprano Oriana Falla; Mezzo-soprano, Pauline ‘Ofe Tamale; Tenor, Daniel Montenegro; and Pianist, Manuel Arellano.
CSN’s Mariachi Plata, led by renowned Mariachi vocalist and guitarrón artist Perry Chacón, Jr., has earned a place as the finest Collegiate Mariachi in the US, winning the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza Competition for the last two years in a row. Special musical guests include the Opera Las Vegas Youth Chorus, under Concert Master Athena Mertes.
Celebración Latina promises to be an enchanting seventy-five minute program of delights and discoveries, a Hispanic musical panorama that will entertain, enrich, and inform.
