The evening will feature each member singing a solo of their choice as well as selections sung by the ensemble. \nA variety of jazz styles will be on display at this concert. There will be some swing\, bebop and even R&B featured. According to Dr. Mark Wherry\, the tradition of this event began in the fall of 2000 as a way for jazz students to sharpen their solo singing and gain a greater appreciation for jazz music. \nVocal Jazz Solo Nights will be presented in the Jay Morrison Recital Hall (Building H\, Room 122) located in the Fine Arts Department at the North Las Vegas campus. DESCRIPTION:The Department of Fine Arts Music Program presents an evening of Mariachi Music featuring Mariachi Plata under the direction of Perry Chacon. In just a few short years\, CSN’s Mariachi Plata has earned a place as the finest collegiate Mariachi in the United States. \nMariachi Plata is comprised of students from CSN’s Mariachi Courses\, part of its Fine Arts music curriculum. Founding directors Fernando and Lupe Gonzalez\, led this group of highly accomplished student musicians to the very top of the mariachi world\, winning the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza competition for several years in a row. This competition\, held in San Antonio\, TX is widely acknowledged as the national championship of collegiate mariachi. CSN’s Plata is the first band from outside of Texas to win this prestigious title in the 28-year history of the competition. \nMariachi Plata\, now under the direction of nationally renowned mariachi vocalist and guitarron artist\, Perry Chacon\, Jr. Plata continues to be one of the points of pride of the College of Southern Nevada. They are an outstanding example of how CSN continues to empower students and communities to achieve\, succeed and prosper. \nThe concert will take place in the Nicholas J.
