The First Year Experience team celebrated student achievement in a big way last week.
On Wednesday, Feb. 11, students, families and supporters gathered for the annual FYE Academic Honors Celebration, one of the program’s signature events. This year’s turnout marked a milestone, with 175 attendees, including 67 honored students.
The evening recognized first-year students for their academic success while also welcoming the people who support them behind the scenes.
Guests were greeted by resource tables, a live violin performance by Tony B., and a room filled with faculty, staff and leadership showing up for students. The event was designed not only to celebrate grades, but to reinforce connection.
“As you may know, this honors event is one of the FYE signature events that we know engages our students, connects us with their family/supports, and helps them feel appreciated for their hard work,” said Yvonne Jackson, director of First Year Experience/Orientation. “We believe events like these have a heavy influence on their sense of belonging and academic persistence/retention.”
Attendees shared positive feedback throughout the evening, expressing appreciation for the recognition and the opportunity to celebrate alongside their families.
President Stacy Klippenstein also shared his appreciation following the event, noting the strong collaboration behind the scenes and the impact of the celebration.
With record attendance and growing momentum, the FYE team is already looking ahead to next spring, with plans to build on the success and make the event even bigger.
