January 2026 AFA Employee of the Month
Awarded to: Steve Ross
Nominated by: Carey Sedlacek
Steve Ross exemplifies the very best of administrative faculty at CSN. As Assistant Director of Environmental Health & Safety, he has quietly and consistently ensured that the College remains in full compliance with complex environmental and safety regulations. In recent months, Steve has overseen multiple regulatory inspections and visits with zero findings, a rare achievement that reflects his meticulous preparation and proactive oversight. He manages permitting, hazardous waste programs, and environmental reporting seamlessly, protecting the College from costly fines and liabilities.
Beyond his technical expertise, Steve is the consummate professional: reliable, even-keeled, and always willing to step up. When a team member deployed with the National Guard for an entire year, Steve immediately absorbed the additional workload without complaint, ensuring continuity of service. He leads by example in the field, especially in laboratory safety, chemical management, and hazardous waste operations, where he mentors faculty and staff to strengthen safe practices.
Perhaps most importantly, Steve’s presence elevates those around him. He is a steady, positive force. He’s dependable in crises, generous with his time, and committed to helping colleagues succeed. His work often happens in the background, but its impact is felt college-wide in the safety of our campuses and the confidence of our regulators.
For his unwavering dedication, professional excellence, and strong leadership, Steve Ross is an outstanding candidate for Administrative Faculty of the Month.
