It’s Finally Time
It’s been more than 20 years since news headlines about CSN’s Northwest Las Vegas Campus began to appear.
We’ve been developing plans for all that time, persevering, remaining dedicated to the vision. Years ago, we even put a stake in the ground, so to speak, erecting signs on the proposed site. It’s a huge project, one that takes years — even decades — to get off the ground. So far, there’s been little movement that the public can see, but we believe that’s about to change. It has to change.
The Northwest Las Vegas area has been the fastest growing part of Southern Nevada since 2006. Now, tens of thousands of people live there, but they have little or no access to higher education and workforce training options.
As a community college, CSN’s mission is to empower the people here in our community to better their lives. It’s the only reason we exist. And yet, we’ve been doing it without all the tools we need. We have campuses in Central Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, and in Henderson, all packed with college students and workers changing their lives.
The 250,000 people who’ve moved to Northwest Las Vegas in the last few decades? They have nothing. If they’re lucky enough to have access to transportation, they can drive 20, 30, 40 minutes to one of our other campuses. If they ride the bus, they’ll be tied up for hours. Every single day. If they can’t do either, they’re stuck with what they’ve got.
That’s not OK.
We already have 40 acres of land on the corner of Durango and Elkhorn, a gift from the federal government in 2020 because our mission is so important. We have agreements with the City of Las Vegas and others on how to develop the land. We have fully developed plans with general education buildings and parking lots and trees and these really great architectural renderings you can see here. There’s even video!
We don’t have the money for any of it though. We need the State of Nevada to come through. You need the State of Nevada to come through. We all do. Advanced education and training are how we diversify this state’s economy. It’s how we empower people to do better for themselves. It’s how we make Nevada a better place to live.
Explore this page, find out about the campus, and then join us and a growing list of VIPs and elected officials who are calling for change.
Because without the voice of the people, no one will hear what we have to say.
