A message and an apology from Instructure regarding the Canvas issues.
11:06am 5-8-2026
Message from Nevada System of Higher Education
The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) is actively monitoring a cybersecurity incident reported by Instructure affecting its Canvas learning management system. Canvas access was disrupted yesterday for users across thousands of institutions, including NSHE institutions that rely on the platform. Instructure has since reported that the issue has been resolved, and services have been restored at NSHE institutions.
We are supporting our institutions as they work with students and staff to address any remaining disruption. While access to Canvas has been restored, this remains a fluid situation, and we will continue to monitor developments closely.

Message from CSN Leadership on May 8, Canvas Access Restored
|
Dear CSN Community, |
|
I’m pleased to share that access to Canvas has been restored and normal system operations have resumed. Students, faculty, and staff may now access course materials, assignments, grading tools, and communication features as usual. I know that yesterday’s outage caused significant disruption across our campus community, particularly for students who had assignments, quizzes, or exams due during this period. I also recognize that many of our faculty experienced considerable challenges as a result of the interruption. In light of these circumstances, I am asking faculty to extend reasonable flexibility to students impacted by the Canvas service disruption this past week. Our shared priority should be ensuring that students are not academically disadvantaged by circumstances beyond their control. As a simple precaution, we also recommend that faculty download any essential Canvas course materials (e.g. gradebooks) you may need for the remainder of the semester, in case of any further unanticipated Canvas disruptions. Our CSN and NSHE IT teams will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed. For the latest information, visit news.csn.edu/info. Thank you for your patience throughout this. We’re in the home stretch of the semester, and I know how much is riding on these final weeks. Your commitment to student success is commendable. Let’s finish strong. |

Message from the Nevada System of Higher Education:
The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) is aware that the Canvas learning management system, operated by vendor Instructure, has experienced intermittent service disruptions at its teaching institutions. NSHE is actively monitoring the situation and supporting institutions to ensure academic continuity.
This is not a cybersecurity incident originating within NSHE or any individual NSHE institution. This is a vendor issue involving Instructure that is impacting many institutions around the country. NSHE System Computing Services is working with institutional IT, cybersecurity, and legal teams to safeguard NSHE systems and information while Instructure works to restore service.
As a precaution, NSHE advises Canvas users not to click on any links associated with the platform until instructed by institutions that the issue has been resolved.
NSHE recognizes the concern and disruption this has caused for students, faculty, and staff across our campuses, and will continue to assess the situation and share updates as information becomes available.
