The Northwest Campus Is Starting to Take Shape

April 24 2026

For more than 20 years, a sign at the corner of Durango Drive and Elkhorn Road in Centennial Hills has promised something big. On April 23, we made that promise a little more real.

At a community town hall hosted in partnership with Las Vegas City Councilwoman Francis Allen-Palenske’s office, college leaders unveiled a video showing what the long-awaited Northwest campus will actually look like. The event, held at the Centennial Hills Community Center, gave Ward 6 residents and students their first real glimpse of a project that’s been decades in the making.

The campus will be built in phases. Phase one centers on the Center for Excellence in Public Safety, a building that will house a police academy, student services, and a library. When fully built out, the campus is expected to serve more than 10,000 students.

Northwest Las Vegas has grown fast, but access to higher education hasn’t kept pace. The new campus is designed to change that, bringing college closer to a community that’s needed it for a long time. Councilwoman Allen-Palenske has been a key advocate for making that happen in her district.

The land is shovel-ready, and the project is on track with a projected completion target of 2032.

That sign on Durango and Elkhorn has been there a long time. It’s finally starting to mean something you can see, and before long, something you can walk into.
